Park Art

Real Art Ways free summer art program!

8 weeks long, 5 days a week, starting Monday June 23 through Friday August 15 from 1:00 – 4:30 pm. This program is designed for kids aged 3 to 13 years old. A parent or guardian is required for children under the age of 5.

What is Park Art?

This fun, interactive summer program provides engaging, free-of-charge arts, literacy, and gardening activities for our neighbors. With visual arts (painting, drawing, printmaking, and pottery), environmental-based arts, movement and dance, literary arts, and live music, every day of Park Art offers a new opportunity to learn, create, and have fun!

What can we look forward to during Park Art?

Join us for a Summer Kick-off Party on Monday June 23rd from 2:00 – 3:30 pm.

There will be face painting, a Dolly Parton Imagination Library, pizza, snacks and more!

Here’s an example of fun field trips we will be taking every week:

  • A weekly walk to our neighborhood Dwight Library for music, science and art projects and reading
  • Thursday June 26 – Dr. Seuss Museum
  • Thursday July 3 – Dinosaur State Park
  • Thursday July 10 – Yale Peabody Dinosaur Museum
  • Thursday July 17 – Bushnell Park Carousel Party
  • Thursday July 24 – The Wadsworth Atheneum
  • Thursday July 31 – Keney Park
  • Friday August 8 – Auer Farm
  • Thursday August 14 – Institute for American Indian Studies

To attend Park Art Field Trips, a parent or guardian must sign a provided permission slip. These will be available every day during this program and can be signed on the day of the field trip.

The program will conclude with an End of Summer Party on Friday August 15 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Kids will enjoy face painting, drumming, dancing, pizza, ice cream and more!

From our Park Art Lead Teacher, Lauren Perrault:

“Working at Park Art is a joy because each day you get to create with kids of all ages from the Parkville community. I love when parents join and participate in the activity of the day. It’s awesome when the art becomes a collaborative process that benefits everyone. Young mentors are able to step outside of their comfort zones and grow into leaders in their communities. Strong relationships of trust form between parents, kids, mentors, and teachers as we gathered together each day in the park.”

Overheard from members of the Park Art community:

“I can’t wait to go back to Park Art this summer! Last year I had so much fun!” – 8 year old Park Art kid

“My girls keep asking me when Park Art will start this summer. They are so excited to come back!” – Parent of 2 Park Art kids
