TEACHING ARTIST, PARK ART AT REAL ART WAYS, SUMMER 2018
Real Art Ways, a dynamic and innovative arts organization, seeks a Teaching Artist to lead Park Art, a daily summer arts program that we have hosted in George Day Park for the past 28 years. This individual will serve as an art teacher and mentor to K-8 students in the Parkville neighborhood of Hartford.
Design and teach daily creative classes for a free summer program in George Day Park
Serve as a mentor to young, arts-curious students in a drop-in environment
Lead all daily classes: 1-5 PM from July 13th- August 15th, 2018
Manage visits from 4-5 Visiting Artists
Prepare purchase order for materials
Maintain an organized materials storage space
Supervise 2 teen apprentices in the park
Maintain strong communication with Education Manager and community-at-large
Fulfill weekly and end-of-summer program evaluations
Ensure and maintain a safe, fun, and welcoming learning environment
Other duties as described by Education Manager
Past teaching experience with young, elementary-aged children is a requisite
Demonstrated ability to plan and implement 4-hour art classes for young children
Empathetic and patient with students of all ages and learning levels
Reliability and punctuality a must
Enthusiastic, outgoing personality
Adaptability (the program takes place in an ever-changing public park environment)
Commitment to working toward a just and equitable society
Strong belief in Real Art Ways’ mission
Mandatory background check and drug-screening test
Practicing artists or full-time teachers are encouraged to apply!
