Ken Vandermark & Nate Wooley
The duo will perform pieces from their first three recordings alongside a new set of music composed using the “exquisite corpse” method, first made popular by the Surrealist art movement.
About the Artists
Chicago saxophonist and composer Vandermark was named a 1999 MacArthur “genius” Fellow and was selected as one of DownBeat’s “25 For The Future” list of most significant improvisors. Wooley, a masterful trumpeter from New York has performed on over 100 recordings. His specific style is part of a burgeoning revolution in experimental trumpet technique.
The duo’s performance at the Issue Project Room in Brooklyn, New York in 2017 was heralded as one of the “Concerts of the Year” by The New York City Jazz Record. Their latest album, Deeply Discounted/Sequences of Snow, is an exciting new statement, featuring long-form compositions written specifically for the LP format and developed while touring in North America during 2017.
"Two of the brightest talents working at the exploratory fringes of jazz composition and improvisation."
"Vandermark has learned to harness his galvanic energy, to bring a composer's craft to the improviser's art."
