Hartford, Connecticut - Rhymes With Opera, a Baltimore collective dedicated to performing new opera, joins Hartford's own West End String Quartet to present Criminal Intent, a program of three contemporary opera works, at Real Art Ways.

The performance is an experience that will take place moving through the Real Art Ways galleries. The program features composer David Smooke's "Criminal Element," written specifically for Rhymes With Opera and the West End String Quartet. "Criminal Element" is a journey through the mind of the French rogue trader Jerome Kerviel, who nearly brought down the entire European financial system in 2008. The composer describes the new opera as a "quote from Kerviel."

Rhymes With Opera and the West End String Quartet will also perform short operas by composers Ryan Jesperson (Hartford) and George Lam (Boston). Lam's opera "Someone Anyone" follows a prostitute held hostage by her client, and Jesperson's "Orphée Redux" re-imagines the Orpheus myth in 1980s New York.
