In Between (Bar Bahar)

98% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

In Between (Bar Bahar) tells the story of three very different Palestinian women living together in Tel Aviv, as they try to find a balance between traditional and modern culture.

Layla (Mouna Hawa) is a criminal defence lawyer originally from Nazareth, whose family is secular Muslim. Nour (Shaden Kanboura) is a religious Muslim woman studying computer science at Tel Aviv University. Salma (Sana Jammelieh) is a lesbian DJ from a Christian family.

Directed by Maysaloun Hamoud.

"they’re never simplistic and always involving, pulsing with compassion and urgency as Hamoud’s vivid characters defy the rules. Each, in her own way, raises her voice."

Sheri Linden, Los Angeles Times

"Whether by serendipity or prophetic insight or some combination of the two, it's a perfect movie for the moment."

A.O. Scott, New York Times

"There's little sense of grievance or victimhood here, only a liberating anger and a sharp but empathic intelligence that pops up in unexpected places."

Ella Taylor, NPR

"What is most intriguing about In Between is how each woman is allowed to make mistakes and learn from them without any judgment on Hamoud's part."

Susan Wloszczyna, RogerEbert.com
