NEIGHBORHOOD STUDIOS APPRENTICES
PRESENT SHORT FILMS AT REAL ART WAYS

Eye on Video
Still from an apprentice video.

Tuesday, August 9, 2011 | 5:30 PM | FREE

Hartford, Connecticut - Real Art Ways is proud to host the 2011 Neighborhood Studios Eye On Video Showcase, which will feature the work of eight young local filmmakers over the course of an intensive six-week film apprenticeship program. The high school apprentices, who come from across the Greater Hartford Area, are led by master teaching artist Erika Van Natta.

The free showcase of apprentice projects will be held at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Real Art Ways Cinema, 56 Arbor Street, Hartford.

The apprentices have worked hard this summer to learn both the basics and subtleties of the art of cinematography, as well as the mechanics of editing in Final Cut Pro. In this year's program, apprentices produce numerous short films in a variety of styles, with subject matter ranging from a single protagonist to dramatic 1950s sci-fi with an environmental twist.

Neighborhood Studios is an nationally recognized education program that provides students with a hands-on arts intensive learning experience. For six weeks each summer, the program links participating students with cultural institutions throughout Hartford. Each participating organization provides specific training in a different artistic discipline and field, and students work as paid apprentices in daily workshops with Master Teaching Artists. In addition to their arts training, apprentices participate in weekly career skills seminars to prepare them for the workplace and increase their literacy and numeracy proficiency.

Support
Support for this program comes from lead sponsor Travelers, contributing sponsor Northeast Utilities Foundation, as well as Knox Foundation, United Way of Central and Northeastern CT, and individual donors to the Greater Hartford Arts Council.
