Hartford, Connecticut – Real Art Ways presents an exciting exhibition and screening of work from this summer’s youth programs, Neighborhood Studios and ParkArt. The Neighborhood Studios: Eye on Video Film Festival, a showcase of short films by the program’s teen artists, will be Saturday, August 7 at 11:30 am.

ParkArt’s end of summer exhibition, which will feature the work of young neighborhood participants in the daily drop-in program, is Thursday, August 19 from 12-5 pm. ParkArt artists-in-residence Stephen Haynes, musician, and Anne Cubberly, visual artist, will be at the exhibition. In addition, during Thursday's 6-10 pm Creative Cocktail Hour, Real Art Ways staff will lead tours through the ParkArt show.

The Neighborhood Studios and ParkArt events will be held free of charge at Real Art Ways, 56 Arbor Street in Parkville. For more information, contact Real Art Ways: 860.232.1006 or realartways.org.

“Creativity and community are what these programs are about. It’s a pleasure to work with such dedicated teachers, and such enthusiastic young people," says Will K. Wilkins, Real Art Ways Executive Director.

About the programs:
Neighborhood Studios is the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s award-winning youth arts apprenticeship program. Each summer, high school students from the Capitol Region are invited to apply for a limited number of jobs in the arts. At Real Art Ways, selected students engage in a film and video program from June through August. Neighborhood Studios: Eye on Video teaches high school apprentices the art of composing shots with a video camera and editing footage using Final Cut Express.

With French film influences like Chris Marker’s La Jetée and a new focus on stop-action animation studio projects, the summer 2010 Neighborhood Studios: Eye On Video Film Festival is fresh, fun, experimental and edgy! A behind-the-scenes documentary short on the Neighborhood Studios program will kick off the festival, followed by the shorter works of the teen artists.

ParkArt is a free, daily, drop-in program that brings hands-on workshops involving environmental arts, nature and technology, dance, literary arts, poetry and live music to Real Art Ways’ young neighbors in Parkville. Focused on giving children the opportunity to explore the possibilities of self-expression and develop the skills to work cooperatively and collaboratively, the program runs from July through August 16 at Day Playground in Parkville.

Support:
Real Art Ways’ education programs are made possible with generous support from Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, Greater Hartford Arts Council, Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Bank of America, Eric Cavoli, Knox Foundation, The Ellen Jeanne Goldfarb Memorial Charitable Trust, and Real Art Ways Members.
