Thursday, October 15, 6-10 PM
$10/$5 for members

Hartford, Connecticut – Real Art Ways presents a live performance by the Larry Ochs Sax & Drumming Core. With a style both traditional and innovative, the Larry Ochs Sax & Drumming Core is a meditation on the songs of American and eastern European blues-shouters, and of traditional chant-singers from Asia and Africa. The performance is part of Creative Cocktail Hour on Thursday, October 15 from 6-10 PM. Admission to the event is $10/$5 for Real Art Ways members. Real Art Ways is located at 56 Arbor Street in Hartford’s Parkville neighborhood. For more information contact Real Art Ways: 860.232.1006 or realartways.org.
The Larry Ochs Sax & Drumming Core was founded in 2000 in the San Francisco Bay area by original members Larry Ochs, Scott Amendola, and Don Robinson. In 2007 the group reached across the globe and added two members, Natsuki Tamura and Satoko Fujii, from Tokyo, Japan. Ochs’ saxophone is an adaptive and ever-shifting extension of voice and song that leads the core through eclectic musical terrain ranging from the minimalist to the inflamed.
Larry Ochs – Soprano, tenor sax
Scott Amendola – Drums
Donald Robinson – Drums
Satoko Fujii – Piano
Natsuki Tamura - Trumpet
Jazz critic Alexandre Pierrepont says, “There’s nothing like listening to Ochs when the two ‘satellite’-drums of Scott Amendola and Donald Robinson, in the astronomical sense, pass him the instruments with which to effect such states of grace.”
