Carol Padberg: Face Value

November 20, 2008 - January 11, 2009
Artist Talk: Thursday, December 4, 6 pm

Hartford, Connecticut -- Real Art Ways presents Carol Padberg’s Face Value, a visual arts exhibition opening Thursday, November 20, 6-8 PM. Padberg uses “Modernist DNA” typography fonts such as Bauhaus, Futura, and Helvetica to create “visual improvisations.” Real Art Ways is located at 56 Arbor Street in Hartford’s Parkville neighborhood. The opening is part of Creative Cocktail Hour, and admission is $10, $5 for Real Art Ways Members. From Friday, November 21 through Sunday, January 11, admission to the exhibition is free.

Padberg explains her motivation and process:

I use fragments of found typography to take apart and put back together language. Sometimes comical, sometimes minimal, these images ask questions about design, nonverbal language, and the modernist lineage of abstract painting.

Carol Padberg has shown her work at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Living Art Museum in Reykjavik, Iceland, Kunstlerhaus in Hamburg, Germany, and Gallery Woong in Seoul, South Korea.
