DAN ZANES & FRIENDS in Concert
Kicking off Real Art Ways' FamFest for the second year in a row, Dan Zanes performs hip, handmade, 21st-century music for little and big ears alike. Tickets: $5-$15 In 1989, Zanes' old rock band The Del Fuegos (Rolling Stones Best New Band in 1984) broke up and he threw himself into fatherhood. He quickly found that there wasn't any music out there that children and parents could listen totogether. So he gathered a bunch of dads near his New York neighborhood together and began recording music. Six albums later, Zanes has become a phenomenon... "Zanes kids' music works because it is not kids music; it's just music — music that's unsanitized, unpasteurized, that's organic even." — NY Times Magazine "A happy alternative to Raffi." — Rolling Stone Some of the people who ended up dropping by for Zanes' latest album, House Party were Deborah Harry, Angelique Kidjo, Grateful Dead's Bob Weir, English folksinger David Jones and Philip Glass, as well as the Rubí Theater Company, Rankin' Don (a.k.a Father Goose) and others. Said Zanes: House Party is "the musical version of the world I want to see all around me, which is pretty much an all-inclusive world filled with friends and gatherings and gardens and lots of fun and food and, of course, music."
