Teen Apprentice - Spring 2012
Part-time: approximately 10 hours/week
** This position is funded through a federal grant. Applicants must provide proof of Hartford residency and household income (applicants should qualify for HUD assistance). **
Real Art Ways seeks a Hartford teen to take part in a paid apprenticeship this Spring. If you are interested in the arts and in learning how a non-profit runs, we want to hear from you.
The apprentice will:
- learn about Real Art Ways' programs and be able to
answer patrons' questions
- help manage mailings
- assist with administrative tasks
- answer phones
- take part in marketing efforts
- learn how all departments of an arts business function

About our internship opportunities
Real Art Ways offers part-time, unpaid internships during the fall and spring semester, as well as during the summer. Positions are posted on our website as they are needed in various areas of the organization. Learning opportunities are typically available in Communications, Development, and Visual Arts. Internships are posted on our website as they become available, with instructions for applying.
Visual Arts Intern -
Spring 2012
Real Art Ways is seeking interns for its Visual Arts programs during the fall semester of 2011. Intern will assist the Visual Arts staff with the coordination of exhibitions and other projects. Duties will include assisting with preparations for gallery openings, project research, and filing and organizing.
Requirements: Applicants must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have strong organizational skills. Design skills are a plus. Applicants must be available to work openings and other events including Creative Cocktail Hour, which occurs the third Thursday of each month from 6–10 pm. Familiarity with Mac computer systems and Microsoft Office is beneficial. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is a plus, but not required. This internship is a commitment of 12-15 hours a week from September to December. College credit is available for those interested. This is an unpaid internship.

Special Events Intern -
Spring 2012
The Special Event Intern will assist in all levels of planning numerous Real Art Ways happenings, including art openings, live arts performances, community programming, and our monthly social events. Intern will participate in event preparation, management and logistics.
Intern responsibilities will include planning, research, promotion and implementation of our yearly fundraising events. Intern will assist in solicitation and sponsorship development, outreach, and the recruitment and management of volunteers. Intern will participate in the development and design of marketing materials and online media and provide general assistance to Real Art Ways as needed.
Interested candidates should possess a willingness to learn, take initiative and get their hands dirty. We seek someone organized while flexible, an out of the box thinker who can work independently and as part of a team. This is a perfect internship for someone who is a self-starter, detail oriented, creative thinker, and not afraid to roll her/his sleeves up.
Knowledge of Adobe and social networking media and online trends is a plus. Evening and weekend availability is a must.
This internship is a commitment of 10-15 hours a week from early February through May. College credit is available for those interested. This is an unpaid internship.

Help spread the word.
Real Art Ways counts on you to introduce us to other people. If you'd like to help us out on a regular basis with our marketing - everything from
distributing posters and flyers to assisting with large mailings to pro bono design projects - contact Sarah Brozna.
Help with Development Initiatives
Real Art Ways is a non-profit 501(c)3 charity that depends on the support of donors to keep its doors open. We welcome volunteers to help us with our donor communications and other fundraising events. Interested volunteers should contact Meghan Maguire Dahn.
Gallery and Event Help
We need volunteer gallery attendents for every Creative Cocktail Hour (on the third Thursday of every month) and many other events. Interested volunteers should contact Sarah Brozna.

Exhibitions: If you'd like to suggest an exhibition idea, or submit your own work, please read our submission guidelines.
Emerging artists in NY, NJ, and New England may enter our annual open call, Step Up, which accepts submissions from March - May each year.
Live performance & music/literary events/etc.: If you have an idea for
a performance or event that Real Art Ways should present, please carefully read our submission guidelines, and follow the instructions on that page.
Cinema: have a film suggestion? Contact John Morrison. If you'd like to lead a discussion or plan an event in conjunction with a film on our schedule (we LOVE these), contact Diana Rosen.
Renting the space: If your event isn't a good fit for our presented programming, but you'd still like to have it at Real Art Ways, renting is an option. Learn more about renting our space.
