POZA

Curated by Marek Bartelik, the POZA catalog presents a selection of both well-established and emergent Polish artists, resident not only in Poland but also in the United States, Brazil, Canada and France. These artists are proposed not as mere instances of a nationality, but as individuals who explore issues of national identity by
casting them in the broader context of contemporary art and life. These issues include questions of the ethnic versus the national, gender identity in post-Communist Poland and the nomadism of contemporary artists. The artists featured are Kinga Araya, Azorro Group, Frida Baranek, Anna Bialobroda, Karolina Bregula, Anna Bella Geiger, Wojciech Gilewicz, Aneta Grzeszykowska & Jan Smaga, Ewa Harabasz, Joanna Hoffmann, Jerzy Kubina, Zofia Kulik, Dominik Lejman, Joanna Malinowska, Jacek Malinowski, Gabriela Morawetz, Adam Niklewicz, Karol Radziszewski, Krystiana Robb-Narbutt, Christian Tomaszewski, Maciej Toporowicz, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Monika Weiss, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Pawel Wojtasik, Xawery Wolski and Krzysztof Zarebski.

50,000 Beds

Paperback, 134 pages
Size 8.25 in. x 5.25 in.

Description:
This catalog chronicles the results of a unique collaboration between Connecticut's three premiere contemporary arts spaces‹Real Art Ways (Hartford), the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art (Ridgefield), and ArtSpace (New Haven). A project by Chris Doyle, 50,000 Beds refers to the number of hotel beds extant in the State of Connecticut. These beds are an apt analogy for the exhibition: they are sites for passion, harbors of refuge, objects that need tending, sources of revenue for corporations‹in short, they are at the heart of the tourism industry.

Foreword: Chris Doyle
Richard Klein "North of New York, South of Boston"
Kristina Newman-Scott and Meghan Maguire Dahn "How to Burn 4 Kilocalories Per Minute: The Kinesthetic of Hotel Housekeeping"
Denise Markonish "45 Check-Ins"
45 Artists: Images and interviews with the 45 participating artists

Catalog design: Design by Default

*Catalog Special: When you visit each of the 50,000 Beds exhibition spaces‹Real Art Ways, the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, and ArtSpace‹request a 50,000 Beds sticker. Collect all three stickers and receive a free exhibition catalogue.
