Artist Statement:

The emphasis on abstract form that has always characterized my work is most evident in the Rockface series. These images are also concerned, to a degree, with how our presence in and impact on the natural landscape creates an entirely new landscape: all of the rock faces I have photographed were created by blasting through hills for road construction and for granite and trap rock quarrying.

About the Artist:

Andrew Buck has been involved with photography since he was a teenager. First exhibiting in Western Massachusetts and Syracuse, New York, he has continued to exhibit in the Northeast since the early 1970s. He was a member of the founding Board of Directors of Light Work in Syracuse.

In 1995, he was awarded a Connecticut Commission on the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship and in 2010 received an Artists Resource Trust grant to support the Rockface series.

Since the late 1970s, when he returned to Connecticut, his work has focused primarily on the man-made and man-altered landscape of Connecticut. A recent body of work focused on similar aspects of the landscape of northwestern Ohio.

This project has been supported by a grant from the Artist's Resource Trust.
