Denman Maroney Quintet

Denman Maroney Quintet

This unique, musically adventurous quintet will perform a new work, "Udentity: A Suite in Seven Parts," featuring Ned Rothenberg on reeds, Dave Ballou on trumpet, Denman Maroney on Hyperpiano, Ruben Radding on Bass, and Michael Sarin on drums.

Denman Maroney developed and uses a technique that involves extending the sounds of the piano by touching its strings with objects (one hand plays the keys while the other moves the objects—copper bars, metal bowls, rubber blocks, and plastic boxes‹along the strings).  His "hyperpiano" compositions use a system of temporal harmony based on the undertone series that allows him to keep several times at once.

"Udentity" was created with support from Chamber Music America's New Works: Creation and Presentation Program, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Funded in part by a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts and the Creative Connections program of Meet the Composer, Inc., and with additional support from the Argosy Foundation, the six New England state arts agencies and the National Endowment for the Arts.
