Ammon Shea, author of Reading the OED, returns to Real Art Ways to talk about the future of dictionaries, thesauruses, and – more importantly – to play DICTIONARY with us! He'll be joined by Peter Sokolowski, Editor at Large for Merriam-Webster
Having already read the OED (22,000 pages of tiny text), Ammon is ready and able to take on anyone daring enough to challenge his knowledge of arcane, archaic, and esoteric definitions. Start brushing up on your Greek and Latin roots.
About Ammon Shea
Ammon Shea is the author of two previous books on obscure words, Depraved English and Insulting English, written with Peter Novobatzky. He prepared for the task of reading the OED by read his first dictionary, Merriam Webster’s Second International, ten years ago, and consequently reading its sequel, Webster’s Third International. He currently lives in New York, NY.
About Peter Sokolowski
Peter Sokolowski is Merriam-Webster's editor at large. His many duties include recording podcasts of "Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Day" and monitoring entries to the interactive "Merriam-Webster’s Open Dictionary." Peter attended the University of Paris and taught French at the University of Massachusetts while earning his M.A. in French Literature.
