Lillian Hsu-Flanders "The Red Sweater Project: A Sweater is not Enough" 1993
Hsu-Flanders organized more than 30 knitters, many from the McCauley
knitters in West Hartford, who hand knit 73 red sweaters in children's
sizes. The sweaters were displayed in cardboard boxes made to look like
children's dresser drawers in a poignant display in the atrium of Hartford
City Hall in the winter of 1993. After the public exhibition, sweaters were
distributed to children in homeless shelters, day care centers for poor
women, and shelters for women who have been battered..
