Wednesday, April 18, 6pm
Author Abby Denson's manga-inspired graphic novel, "Tough Love: High
School Confidential," is a GLBT teen's guide to coming out to parents
and friends. Denson will join us, along with graphic novelist Tim Fish,
for an illustrated talk and presentation following The Gay and Lesbian
Student Education Network's and True Color's Breaking the Silence Rally.
West Hartford native Abby Denson is the creator of Tough Love: High School
Confidential, as seen in XY Magazine and now published by Manic D Press.
She has scripted Powerpuff Girls Comics, Simpsons Comics, Sabrina The Teenage
Witch, Josie and the Pussycats, Disney Adventures, and comics for Nickelodeon
Magazine. Her other creations include Deadsy Cat & Kissy Kitty,
Jamie Starr Teen Drag Queen and her self-published comics, Dolltopia
and Night Club. She rocks out in her spare time with her bands Abbymatic
and The Saturday Night Things. She loves New York, container gardening,
and petting her cat, Slinky.
Boston-based Tim Fish wrote and drew the comic book series "Cavalcade
of Boys." Often described as "real" and "honest," Cavalcade
takes a bittersweet look at gay romance and dating today. Fish has drawn
mini-comics and Web comics for more than a decade. His recent coming of
age graphic novel "Strugglers" was published by Poison Press,
and other recent work has been published by Popimage, H&O Editions,
and Marvel Comics.
