SHAUN LEONARDO
Leonardo’s portrayal of a masked Mexican luchador (wrestler) negotiates
the tensions between masculine desire and unspoken vulnerability that exist
both within the artist, and society as a whole. El Conquistador vs. The Invisible
Man is a retrospective and reinterpretation of Leonardo’s 15 man wrestling
performances and the corresponding iconography of the sport. El Conquistador
vs. The Invisible Man is a wrestling event in
which Shaun Leonardo portrays a Mexican wrestling luchador in order to fight
invisibility—metaphorically and literally. Shaun will be doing a special
performance scheduled for opening night, Saturday May 12th with a rain date
of May 17th.

FAY KU
Ku’s narrative and figurative work deals with issues of socialization
and the “un-thought known:” the stuff of memory, myth, and imagination.
Large East Asian-inspired screen prints, depicting large-scale historic battles,
employs mythic imagery to examine current political events, and man’s “innate” capacity
for destruction.

NADYA VOLICER
Volicer is interested both visually and conceptually in piecing together
many small parts to make up a whole; her sculptures and installations seem
to draw equally from chaos and harmony. Using salvaged materials, such
as used paper and cardboard, Volicer’s uses themes of home, memory,
movement and architecture to invite the audience into her unique structures.

JILLIAN CONRAD
Conrad uses sculpture as a tool for creating connections between the ordinary
stuff of everyday life and the singularity of human experience. By juxtaposing
dull and reflective materials, light is employed to transform the opaque
into spaces that are luminous and other-worldly, drawing the viewer into
both the familiarity and friction between the inner and outer worlds we
inhabit.
